About Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, also known as "Venice of the America" is
located on the on the southeastern coast of the state. Not only is
Fort Lauderdale known for its sun, sparkling beaches, palm trees and
diversity but it is also the largest of Broward County's
municipalites.
Due to its many attributes, Fort Lauderdale has seen
an influx of residents over the past several years. Fort Lauderdale
is home to nearly 200,000 residents.
As more and more people flock to Fort Lauderdale, the city has become
home to a host of high rise condominium buildings along the
intercoastal. Interspersed with the high rises you will find numerous
single family homes, apartments, and sprawling riverfront mansions.
Not only does Fort Lauderdale have all the attributes of tropical
destination but it also is the home of several large law firms, banks,
investment companies and entrepreneurial business endeavors. Thus,
many families find Fort Lauderdale as an ideal place to work and live.
While Fort Lauderdale has many dedicated permanent residents, it is
still a top spot for Florida tourism.
Although not the spring break
hot spot it was in the 1970s, the tourism trend in Fort Lauderdale
continues today. Tourists are drawn to the sun and fun of the coastal
beach town. Fort Lauderdale boasts over 3,000 hours of sunshine a
year and is the perfect location for boating, golfing and soaking up
the sun. Additionally, Fort Lauderdale has its own airport, the
Florida Executive Airport, thus it is easily accessible to visitors
from all over the world.
So what is there to do in Fort Lauderdale besides enjoying the
beautiful beaches and waterways? Quite a lot actually. Shopping,
sailing, fine dining, fishing and exploring the cultural offerings are
just of the offerings. You can stroll the famous downtown street, Las
Olas Boulevard which is home to restaurants of every variety, high end
shopping and sight seeing. If you are looking for a more relaxed
vacation just head down to the beach. Not only will you find
beautiful sandy beaches but you will also stumble onto a plethora of
eateries, stores and local bars.
If you are looking to learn some
Fort Lauderdale history while feasting on an all you can eat barbeque
buffet head over to the Jungle Queen dinner cruise for a boat ride,
animated narration of the hot spots along the intercoastal, followed
by a down home dinner and variety show.
You can also visit one of the many exhibitions at the Museum of Art,
explore the Museum of Discovery & Science or take in a movie on at the
Imax Theater in the Museum of Discovery & Science. Still not
satisfied? The Broward Center for Performing Arts offers some of the
hottest theater experiences in town. If you still have energy after
exploring the sights, grab a gelato, take a ride on a water taxi and
explore the intercoastal and intricate canals that gave Fort
Lauderdale the name "Venice of America."
